Crew Leader

The Colorado Legends and Legacies Youth Corps Crew Leader positions require individuals who are skilled problem-solvers, experienced leaders and positive role models. A crew is comprised of seven - ten Corpsmembers (16-24 years old) all working together to complete conservation work projects on public lands and in communities. Crew leaders manage a demanding work and living schedule and will be responsible for creating a valuable experience for the Corpsmembers. Leaders will be responsible for facilitating environmental education, life skills, transferable work skills, and safe, positive group living skills to their crew. Leaders must possess a strong work ethic, promote high quality work performance in their crew, and have a desire to devote themselves to field-based work and youth development for an entire summer. Crew Mentor

The position requires an individual who loves being outdoors, is service oriented, a positive role model, and wants to develop leadership skills and experience. The Crew Mentor, collaborating with the Crew Leader, will be responsible for facilitating the work and educational components of the youth corps program. A Crew Mentor must possess a strong work ethic, promote high quality work performance in their crew, and have a desire to devote themselves to field-based work and their own leadership development for an entire season. Sawyer Crew

MHYC-CS crews complete wildfire prevention, invasive plant removal, and other conservation projects on public lands throughout a region that includes Custer, El Paso, Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas, Pueblo, and Teller counties. Crew consists of 8-11 Corpsmembers supervised by 2 adult Crew Leaders. Travels to work sites as a team in Corps vehicles and usually camps onsite at the project location for 10 days before returning home for 4 days off. The program requires primarily front country camping but may include some back country camping involving hiking into remote campsites. The crew is responsible for planning and cooking meals and completing team-based chores. MHYC-CS requires corpsmembers to be flexible! Continue...

Camping Conservation Crew

Young adults complete conservation projects on public lands throughout a diverse region that includes Custer, El Paso, Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas, Pueblo, and Teller counties. Project examples are fencing, campground improvement, trail construction and improvement, park improvements and development. Crews consist of 8-10 Corpsmembers supervised by 2 adult Crew Leaders. The camping crew meets and travels to work sites as a team in Corps vehicles and usually camps onsite at the project location for 10 days before returning home for 4 days off. The program requires primarily front country camping but may include some back country camping involving hiking into remote campsites. The crew is responsible for planning and cooking meals and completing team-based chores.
